As the impact from COVID-19 continues to develop, I’m committed to checking in with you regularly to keep you informed of what Coastal is doing to help our members, our employees and our community.
In my latest Coffee with Chuck video, we talk about:
Keeping our members and employees safe
Continuing to provide service to you
Member assistance programs
Stay at Home Orders Several communities have now issued Stay at Home orders, including Durham, Orange, and Wake Counties. Coastal is considered an essential service, and we will remain open to continue meeting your financial needs.
We also have a team of Coastal leaders that meets every day, focused on what we can do to help our members through this difficult time. Here are our latest updates:
Mobile Check Deposits This week, we’ve listened to your feedback and made some adjustments to our Mobile Check Deposit feature in our smartphone apps. We’ve increased the number of checks, and dollar amount per check, a member can deposit. While our weekly dollar limits remain, these changes should remove nearly all of the hurdles some members were facing.
Community Support I’m pleased to announce that the Coastal Credit Union Foundation voted yesterday to provide a community relief package, in the form of $500,000 in grants to several area nonprofits. These grants will be specifically used to provide community assistance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The package includes a grant to the newly-created NC Restaurant Relief Fund. This initiative was created over the past week to help restaurant employees who have been hit hard by businesses closing to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Relief for our Members While we continue to work on new relief programs and expect to announce more next week, I wanted to remind you of the steps we’ve already taken:
Providing free, expedited service for replacing damaged debit or credit cards
Annual Meeting Our annual meeting and board of directors election has been postponed as a result of restrictions on group gatherings due to the COVID-19 outbreak. We will reschedule the meeting for later in the year, and will keep you updated once a new date has been set.
Each day, Coastal, our members, and our community are facing new challenges posed by this pandemic. We will continue to adapt quickly, and will do what is necessary to see us all through it.
