I hope that your summer is off to a great start. I know that I’m looking forward to a few upcoming concerts, and after you hear about our latest member perk, I suspect I’ll see quite a few of you at those shows, too. But first, I want to tell you about some other things happening at Coastal, including two big member service milestones, and an epic celebration with our nonprofit community.
Power of Sharing
On May 23, the Coastal Credit Union Foundation hosted the 4th annual Power of Sharing, our annual event showcasing the awesome work done by area nonprofits. It was our biggest Power of Sharing yet, and the foundation and several of our business partners combined to recognize 13 area nonprofits with more than $1.5 million in grants. During the event, Pam Kohl, executive director of Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Hopefully you had a chance to follow on social media, or watch the live stream that UNC-TV was running. If not, you’ll have another chance; UNC-TV plans to air it on TV as a two-hour special late this summer.
The Power of Sharing, and everything our foundation does, is made possible by members like you. Each time you use your Coastal debit or credit card, we donate a penny to the foundation. That sounds small, but all those transactions collectively add up to more than $300,000 each year to help our community. It’s powerful demonstration of what we can do when we call work together.
Looking ahead, we’re working on ideas to get members more involved in the Power of Sharing. Our plan is to announce a program later this year that will enable members to help choose one of our 2020 grant recipients.
Members are coming to Coastal for a lot more than checking accounts and credit cards, and that’s led to two of our key divisions recently celebrating milestones.
Our mortgage department is coming off a record month. In May, the team funded more than $60 million in loans for the first time ever. We remain ranked in the top 4 mortgage lenders in our market, out of hundreds of lenders. With home buying season heating up, I encourage members who are in the market for a new home to talk to a mortgage officer and Daymark Realty agents, who can help you find the right home and the right loan.
Additionally, Coastal Wealth Management, available through CFS*, recently topped $500 million in assets under management. This is a major milestone and makes our program one of the largest in the country among credit unions. Our advisors help members invest, plan for retirement, plan for insurance or long term care needs, and more.
Both of these accomplishments are notable. A few years ago, it seemed like a lot of members weren’t always aware that we even offered either of those services. Now, we’re clearly top of mind and they’re coming to us first for their financial needs.
Music Park Exclusive Offer
Finally, I’m excited to announce another member perk that our partners at LiveNation are making available to us. Just announced, Coastal members have access to an exclusive ticket offer for various shows at Coastal Credit Union Music Park all summer long. The offer is for flat-priced $30 lawn or $50 seat tickets, which represents a significant savings for our members. There are a number of great shows being offered, and I’m certain these tickets will be popular.
To take advantage of this deal, log in to online banking and click on the Spotlights section for the offer code and the link to ticket site.
None of these things would be possible without our awesome members, both for choosing Coastal first and for helping to elevate our profile in the community.
