Joan Nelson

Coastal is excited to share that our board chair, Joan Nelson, has recently completed the Credit Union Development Education program, which is offered by the National Credit Union Foundation.

While there are several courses that teach the “how” of running a credit union, the CUDE program is a professional development opportunity that uniquely explores the “why” of being a credit union.  Participants are immersed in the very heart of the credit union movement, with deep dives into cooperative principles, credit union philosophy and history, and the development issues and challenges that credit unions are positioned to help our members overcome.

Nelson returned from training and shared the following insight, “It was an amazing experience and I feel honored to now be a part of the DE community. I’m looking forward to working with everyone as we move forward to continue to make a difference for our members and our community!”

She is the first Coastal volunteer to earn the CUDE designation. The credit union currently has 24 Development Educators on staff, including the entire senior management team.
